I haven’t looked into it, but someone said you can transfer your GoodReads stuff over to Story Graph - the discussion was around moving to ethically run platforms and Story Graph was recommended.
Pleasure! Yes my friend who uses Story Graph mentioned you can transfer over too, I'm just too precious to lose any book data. Let me know if it works for you!
“If you read all of these, you might just become me” - imagine! My top pick of 2024 was a collection of short speculative fiction by Koori/Lebanese writer Mykaela Saunders, Always Will Be - which imagines possible futures through a First Nations lens. I also started reading a collection she edited called This All Come Back Now, which incredibly is the first of its kind - the first ever anthology of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander speculative fiction. See you on Goodreads and on Saturday x
That is an incredible amount of reading! Ooft there is life before The Creative Act and after The Creative Act. 2025 books are already delivering - The Wedding People by Alison Espach is FIVE STAR GLORY.
Also a recommendation….. Tan Twan Eng ‘ House of doors ‘ and his previous 2 books. I was recommended the House of Doors, set in Malaysia around the time of WW2, and devoured it and had to read his previous books.
A quick question, having never used Goodreads, but having just downloaded it. Can I get your recommendations in this post into Goodreads, or do I have to make note of them and add ? Thanks. I’m excited now not to have lists of books all over the place that I can never find !
Hi Lee, yes absolutely, I am all about making life easier so I have linked every book title (in the green) to each book on Goodreads, so whichever ones you like, just click 'Want To Read' (under the book image, on left of screen on the Goodreads page). Then voila, it will add your running list, I continuously add when a friend recommends or I see in a bookshop or article!
It was so BRILLIANT! Honestly, seriously impressed. I dog-eared almost every other page and went back to write them out. Felt many of your truths and longings deeply. Are you working on anything else at the moment?
Your writing is always a pleasure to read. Thank you for the recommendations! I am going to start using Good Reads so I can remember what I have read!
Seven Skins of Esther Wilding was on my list of best reads too but my favourite for the year was Lola in the Mirror by Trent Dalton - hilarious, heart wrenching and thrilling all at once!
The Lost Flowers of Alice Heart is also a great read :)
Wow, thank you. I have saved your post.

Wow, a whole genre I've never heard of! How fascinating. Thanks for recs. Love love x
Thanks for sharing your list! My record is 54 in a year, I was pretty proud of that
Esther wilding will go down as one of my top 10 reads for life. All fours knocked me over this year.
The creative act is currently underway!
